anticipation monday
Few more interesting releases this week than last.  I’m definitely going to pick up the new Frightened Rabbit and Broken Bells and I’ll give Josh Rouse and Gorillaz a listen. Anticipation Monday - 3/8/10

anticipation monday
Tuesday’s one of my favorite days of the week.  Random favorite day of the week you may say.  Well, Tuesday is when new music comes out and subsequently the day of the week where my bank account takes a little hit. I was thinking of ways to get more music onto my blog.  I’ll still trot out the “In Case You’re Curious” mixes but because I take those mixes quite...

bye bye water cooler
I drink a LOT of water every day.  I’ve tried every water container out there — Nalgenes, Siggs, bottles that measured daily intake, etc etc.  I just found my latest vessel.  The Water Bobble.  Convenience of a water bottle and deliciousness of a Brita.  Done and done.

Valentine's Day brought to you by Thomas Keller
Well, sort of.  Rather than brave the masses with a wife who is 9-months pregnant, we decided to stay in and cook dinner.  We busted out Thomas Keller’s new cookbook — ad hoc at home — and cooked our Valentine’s Day dinner from it.  See below for prime rib w/ horseradish cream, creamed spinach and red potatoes (not pictured: red velvet cupcakes). Great meal —...

Back from the dead
Yup, gonna try and revive this ole blog o’ mine.  Freshened up the design a bit + have a few ideas on ways to post more often — we’ll see if it works. PS — Baby Downs is NOT going to take over this blog. PSS — over/under on when Bain welcomes me back to the blogosphere is 3 hours.

Gilt = $400M valuation?!?!
I’m a big fan of Gilt Groupe.  My credit card, not so much.  Just saw this Silicon Insider article reporting that Gilt is close to raising another $40 milion at a $400 million valuation.  On the surface, that blew my mind.  Blodget cites some truly impressive stats (0-$150M in revenue in under 2 years, phenomenal int’l growth) and I absolutely agree w/ his conclusion that inventory is...

In Case You're Curious - June '09
This time w/ a few liner notes. 1 Amadou & Mariam - Sabali I’m already breaking my rule that every playlist will start off with an instrumental track but my buddy Ryan just sent out his latest mix, “Tiny Changes”, and this was the fabulous opening track he went with.  Sort of instrumental since I have no idea what they’re singing about… 2 Passion Pit -...

Sneak Peek: White Rabbits
In the last post leading up to In Case You’re Curious: June (should drop sometime tomorrow…), here’s a live performance of a song that made the playlist.  White Rabbits doing “Percussion Gun” on Letterman.  How much fun would it be to bang on the drums during this song?

Today's band - Silversun Pickups
Easily one of my favorite bands right now.  Here they are performing “Growing Old Is Getting Old” via Spinner.  Be sure to watch “Panic Switch” as well.

Next installment of ICYC is coming...
I’m finalizing the June playlist as we speak - it’s tough letting down a few of these bands but I trust they’ll forgive me in the end. In preparation, let’s relive the music from a few of last month’s stars.  I’m a big fan of finding in-studio / acoustic performances so for the next 4 days, I’ll post a video of an artist that made the first In Case...

WatchWatch
Not quite as funny as the original video but I love the cardboard cut-out boat prop and  ?uestlove on the drums + the back-up dancers are a nice touch.

Thrilla in Manilla
It’s a rainy day in SF today so a good time to do a little TiVo maintenance.  Just finished watching the HBO documentary Thrilla in Manilla.  I’m not a huge boxing fan but this is a great film that tells the story of one of the biggest sporting events of all time from Frazier’s point-of-view.  Few notes: Never realized how cruel and racist Ali was.  Far from the G.O.A.T. in my...

In Case You're Curious...
One of the biggest reasons I started this here little blog is to talk about music.  I have an insatiable appetite for music to say the least.  And aside from the dozen or so music blogs I read, I always enjoy seeing what my friends are listening to.  Maybe it’s Bain’s top 5 artists or Kenny Kellogg’s Friday Chill Music.  So a regular fixture of /the sink/ will be “In Case...

Congrats to the Bonobos crew
Big fan of Bonobos pants and with the news today that they closed a round of funding, I’m guessing men across the country are about to learn how great these pants are.  Check them out at www.bonobos.com.

A bit about the sink
I enjoy blogs.  I try and read oh a hundred or so a day.  I even write my company’s blog.  But good intentions aside, I’ve never gotten the personal version off the ground. About the name.  You’ll find a little of everything here - sports, music, technology, food, etc. etc.  I’ll be throwing the proverbial kitchen item at you.  Feel free to throw whatever back. And thanks...
