It’s a rainy day in SF today so a good time to do a little TiVo maintenance.  Just finished watching the HBO documentary Thrilla in Manilla.  I’m not a huge boxing fan but this is a great film that tells the story of one of the biggest sporting events of all time from Frazier’s point-of-view.  Few notes:

• Never realized how cruel and racist Ali was.  Far from the G.O.A.T. in my opinoin.
• As an avid sports fan, I get caught up in today’s biggest rivalries.  Red Sox v. Yankees. Celtics v. Lakers. Michigan v. Ohio St.  The NFC East. All of these pale in comparision to Ali v. Frazier.  These men truly hated each other.
• As a result of this hatred, man they beat the crap out of each other. I feel like boxers today don’t fight like that any more.  Not a surprise that both of these men are shells of themselves now.

Definitely recommended.
